Life Skills Workshops

Employers identify “soft skills,” such as communication, interpersonal skills and problem solving, along with personal qualities such as self-esteem and motivation as critical to workforce productivity. Yet many employers find that entry-level employees lack these important skills. Towards Employment offers interactive, behavior-changing Life Skills Workshops that provides participants with new tools and new attitudes for building better relationships and delivering stronger performance in the workplace.

These workshops also include strategies and resources for managing personal issues that may impact an individual’s ability to focus on their work and performance. Participants learn how to successfully manage their work/life challenges while on the job. Workshops discuss such topics as: Money management (clearing credit card debt, budgeting, savings options), accessing continuing education opportunities, work/ life balance, parenting, wellness, and child care planning.

We will come to your place of business, just as we do for other Cleveland area businesses, agencies and technical training programs. Whether you need a one-time workshop or multi-session program, we will customize the sessions to meet your specific needs. You choose the topic(s), program length, time and day, and an experienced instructor will facilitate each session. Our award-winning Achieve program provides a comprehensive approach to addressing entry-level employee retention and advancement.

Those who use our services are consistently pleased with the results: “The Life Skills workshops provide the trainees an opportunity to learn, share, interact, and to help one another. These “soft” skills supplement the technical skills that our facility provides, making our trainees better prepared for the world of work. The Towards Employment facilitators are excellent, fun, and eager to help our trainees enhance their skills.”

Front-line Supervisory Training

Conflict with one’s supervisor is often cited by entry-level employees as one of the most common reasons for leaving a job. In response, Towards Employment’s has developed supervisory training classes that are geared to front-line supervisors and equips them with the tools and knowledge they need to lead an effective team. Our curriculum offers:

  • Dynamic interactive sessions that address specific concerns faced by entry-level workers and provide tools for building better working relationships;
  • A six-hour curriculum adapted from a national model and accredited by the Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Ohio, the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers, and the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board for continuing education units;
  • Adult learning techniques, including music, role-plays, worksheets, pair-share activities, and team-building exercises to ensure maximum participation and impact.
  • Topics include: Motivating Employees, Communicating Effectively, Understanding Cost of Turnover and Managing Diversity.

The training is offered as one full-day, two half-day, or three two-hour sessions (along with a post-training follow-up session six weeks later) and is widely acclaimed by participants and upper-level management.
